Demand that Grand Forks stop borrowing money to pay for projects. For example, the hateful Civic Center was supposed to cost less than ~45 million dollars. Then there was the "cost overrun of 30 percent" lie that boosted the cost to ~60 million.
Thanks to interest costs on borrowed money, we've been making payments for over a decade, and we STILL owe MORE than the ~60 million dollars we were told the project would cost.
Grand Forks is now in debt for a 20 million dollar airport terminal, 20 million dollars for two high-school additions, 10 million for an elementary school we don't need, and I'm not sure they've ever told us what the taxpayer is going to get stuck for on the No-Choice Fitness Center. We're scheduled for a 7 million dollar hockey rink on the South End, and a 20 million dollar high school for former drop-outs in about two years. Those figures are the amount they've admitted to, NOT the amount of principle PLUS the interest over the term of the loan. The TRUE figures would be startlingly higher.
All future projects should require budgeting, SAVING, and PAYMENT IN FULL at start of construction. NO borrowed money, NO interest paid on a loan.
This will also likely eliminate a large portion of the "boondoggle" projects; a happy side-effect.
